Appeal after vandals destroy memorial trees in historic park

Parks and police officers are appealing to the public for information about an upsetting vandal attack in Kidderminster’s flagship park.

Three Himalayan Birch trees worth £1,000, which were planted in memory of former Wyre Forest District Council parks officer Robin Minton, were sawn down in the third mindless attack of its kind in the last six years.

The latest incident happened in Brinton Park, Kidderminster, over the weekend of 6 and 7 February, close to the four winds shelter. If anyone has any information about the person or people responsible they are urged to report it online to West Mercia Police quoting crime number 22/14161/21.

Council Leader Councillor Graham Ballinger said: “There really are no words to describe this kind of attack. The trees were planted in memory of one of our well-respected parks officers. I can’t imagine how upsetting this latest attack must be for his friends and family.

“So many people in our community have come to rely on our parks and open spaces during this extremely difficult year, it’s hard to explain why anyone should feel they need to damage what is a much-loved local resource in such a way.

“If anyone saw anything or has any information can lead to identifying those responsible, I would urge them to report it as soon as possible.”
